How Do You Respectfully Alter an Authentic Villa?

“We quickly realized we should work with what's serving, alter what's distracting, and emphasize the building's intrinsic qualities,” says Robert Kolenik. The primary design intervention was to create a new layout with the kitchen as the centerpiece. “We wanted the home to function well now and still be relevant in ten years. We kept elements like the centuries-old beams and fireplace.”

On both sides of the kitchen, the heart of the home, lie the dining and lounge areas. “We crafted a dark green wall around the existing fireplace that houses the flatscreen and extends into a wall-mounted open cabinet reaching the windows.” This design connects the home's intimacy with the outdoors.

In another part of the home, the master bedroom features wood details and a custom walk-in closet. The adjacent bathroom, with its mirrored design centered around a freestanding bathtub, provides a calming atmosphere to start or end the day.

The villa’s layout ensures seamless living and entertaining. The spacious dining area is perfect for family meals, while the lounge area invites relaxation. The dark green wall around the fireplace not only adds a touch of elegance but also integrates modern technology discreetly. The open cabinet design flows naturally to the windows, enhancing the connection between indoor comfort and the natural beauty outside.
