The Perfect Cut
In Maastricht, intuitive design and conscious choices
evoke a new sense of luxury.
In a listed building in the heart of Maastricht, Kolenik created a high-end penthouse where luxury often lies in the details and durability. “A perfectly finished statuario marble fireplace, intuitive LED lighting that dims when you enter a space, and materials that will outlast you—this is the new luxury,” says Kolenik. The penthouse spans over 300 square meters, and combines cradle-to-cradle design with warmth and luxury. “Being given carte blanche shows trust but also brings responsibility. To ensure the clients received the luxurious space they envisioned, I involved them at key moments, like choosing the marble for the living room’s imposing fireplace,” Kolenik explains. “The owners wanted to maintain the spacious feel of the home. We enhanced this with design elements like the 180-centimeter-long herringbone oak floor pattern, creating a sense of spaciousness. Sight lines up to 25 meters also contribute to this effect, bridging distances across the space’s rich furniture array.”
In the living room, Kolenik chose the grey Lawrence sofa by Minotti. “Minotti’s subtle color schemes and unobtrusive luxury align perfectly with my design style,” he says. Kolenik’s own walk-in collection named Kolenik Cabinet is integrated into the penthouse’s master bedroom and wardrobe. Kolenik’s signature perfect finish is evident in the penthouse. “Our craftspeople positioned the statuario marble block above the fireplace with perfect precision, making it appear to float,” he says. Technical elements, from lighting to home automation, are cleverly concealed, enhancing comfort and luxury. “The hall lighting dimming as you walk to the toilet feels incredibly luxurious—a small, pleasurable moment supported by home automation.”
